What signifies is precisely that which is least translatable into familiar meanings, ideas, modes. A new form, as first glimpsed in passage, alters the parameters of how it is to be evaluated. Emerging from the unforeseen, it is an insistent, mutant identity. Aesthetic sensibility can only validate what it senses will affect, survive, transcend in situ. Analysis and rationalization are later phases of cultural assimilation beyond the artist's immediate concern.
